Here we go! - by Amy

We are on our way to New York! Things have been a little hectic. We are leaving behind a 10-year-old with bronchitis, a 2-year-old with a low fever, a dog with a mouth swollen from trying to eat a bee, plus an additional 12-year-old kid, dog, cat, and lizard.

Obviously, my parents are saints.

We ended up doing all our packing this morning, which was insane and does not inspire confidence that we remembered everything. Although it certainly seems like we should have everything, based on how much stuff we brought! We have 1 massive duffel bag with our tent and camp pads; 1 large duffel bag with our clothes & toiletries; two backpacks full of helmets, water bottles, handlebar bags and other biking gear; and two sleeping bags. Thank goodness we don't have to carry our stuff with us on bikes! I felt like we were going to be roughing it until I saw all our stuff packed.

I was concerned about the luggage limit on our train, but the employee at the station just shrugged when I asked about checking bags and said, "just take it on the  train with you." So right now it's all piled at the front of our train car (which still makes me nervous, because the New Orleanian in me believes that someone will try to sneak off with a sleeping bag or 100-lb duffel bag) and our bikes are hopefully on a u-haul on their way to New York (although we still haven't even met the guy who is bringing them). Did I mention that I have a cough and possibly caught Jarod's bronchitis? But who cares -- we are GOING TO CLIMATE RIDE!

We will post again tonight after registration. Thank you, thank you to everyone who donated and got us here.
